On June 10th artists Crystal Baxley and Stefan Ransom will celebrate the release of Songs on Conceptual Art, a compilation album of original songs inspired by Sol LeWitt’s Sentences on Conceptual Art.
A release party will be held on Sunday, June 10th at 8pm at Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison Street, Portland, OR.
The party will include performances by Dragging an Ox Through Water, White Rainbow, Sun Foot, Rob Walmart, Caspar Sonnet, John Rau, Jordan Dysktra, Jake Ransom and 90 Billion Raindrops.
The entry fee will be $5 at the door.
This double LP will be available as a limited edition run of 350 records through labels Awesome Vistas, Teenage Teardrops and Marriage Records.
All songs can be streamed and a digital download of the album is available for free on the project’s website: http://songsonconceptualart.com
Sentences on Conceptual Art is a list of 35 short statements that Sol LeWitt published during a time of intense change in the art world. For each of LeWitt’s 35 Sentences, Baxley and Ransom asked a different musician or artist to create a song based on that sentence in some way, opening new points of access to LeWitt’s Sentences through new musical interpretations.
